    Once we start the conversation about Luther’s teaching about “faith alone,” it is important to recognize that Catholics and Lutherans have managed to come to significant agreement on this point in the 1999 Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification. Other Protestants, too, have found this agreement represents their faith, and the Methodists have officially co-signed the document. So yes, “faith alone” has its roots in the Reformation, but we’ve come a long way in terms of mutual understanding on this point.
